Thursday night saw the first meeting of a local chapter of the Social Media Club. Between 30 and 40 locals interested in social media met up at the offices of Sacramento Press to talk about uses for this new technology and how they can work together to increase adoption.
The Social Media Club was started by husband and wife team Chris Heuer and Kristie Wells in San Francisco in 2006 and has quickly grown to well over 100 chapters around the world.
The local group was started by Ronnie Ledesma, Sallie Boorman, Jeff Marmins and Josh Morgan. The group manages a Facebook group with information on upcoming meetings and topics. As expected of a group discussing social media, there was quite a bit of chatter on Twitter about the meeting, inclduing several attempts at real-time coverage of the event.
